Khoikhoi Kalahari hanging doll
KHOIKHOI is a general name which the herding people of the Cape used for themselves. The word can be translated to mean ‘the real people’ or ‘men of men’, meaning ‘we people with domestic animals’. This is our Dark South African Hanging Doll who represents the first people who lived in South Africa. This doll is handmade with brown velvet skin and hand stitched embroidered facial features.
His dark hair is hand-sewn and his arms & legs are made with porcupine quills with ostrich egg-shell, brass-, wood- and bone beads.
Clothing is handmade with Springbok fur and traditional beads.
